Using Esperant With Minisoft's 32-bit
ODBC Driver
This document will provide the first steps to producing an ad-hoc report from data on your
HP e3000. Esperant is logically divided into two sections, the Administration System and the
Query System. The Administration System is used to define the Data Views used in Esperant.
The Query System allows you to define the various report layouts based upon the available.
You will need to Data Views.
Using Esperant Administration System
Begin an Administration System session and select New from the file menu. You will be given
the New Esperant Data View dialog box.
- Select the Autobuild Wizard.
Provide a new name for your Data View. Select Next.

For this sample accept the default values. Select Next.

If an Available Connection for your Data
Source is not listed Select the Add button. Otherwise, skip to number eight (8).

Enter a new Connection Name. Select OK.

Choose the Connection Type, ODBC. Select OK.

From the Data Source Name list, pick your Data
Source Name.
Pick Minisoft ODBC from the list of available DBMS Types.
If Minisoft ODBC does not appear in the list, a
few short steps can add it.
Select OK.

An Available Connection for your Data
Source is now listed. Select this entry. Select Next.

For this sample accept the default values. Select Next.

Select the table you wish to use and press the greater- than (>)
button.
Select Next.

Select Finish. Your Data View should now be displayed with the
list of items in the selected table. Exit from the Administration System
and proceed to the Query System.
Using Esperant Query System

Start a Query System session and create a new report/query.
Select the Data View you created in the Administration System.
Select OK.

Show the Show Query Wizard.

Press the double greater- than (>>) button to select all the
fields in your table. Select the Run button to start the query.

After the query is complete, you should see the first rows from the
table.
Note that this sample will select ALL the
records from your table. If the table is large, please use the For
tab on the Show Query Expertdialog box to reduce the size of
the result set.
Adding Minisoft
ODBC to the DBMS Type
list.

Navigate to www.Minisoft.com. Under
Client Server and Web Development Tools select ODBC. Under
Reporting Tools select Speedware's Esperant, then scroll down to Adding
Minisoft ODBC to the DBMS Type list.

Download (right mouse, save as) the edbmini.ini
file into your "c:\Program Files\ESPERANT\BIN32\DBMS"
directory.

From your "c:\Program Files\ESPERANT\BIN32\DBMS" directory,
open and edit DBMS.INI to include:
[DBMS##]
Name=edbmini.ini
Note: Where ## is use an unused number.

Restart the Esperant Administration System.
